Fritz to present ‘Wedding Singer’

Herald Staff Report Grand Forks Herald
Published: 02/04/2010

Tickets are on sale now for “The Wedding Singer,” a musical that takes audiences back to when hair was big, greed was good and a wedding singer might just be the coolest guy in the room, coming Feb. 18 to Chester Fritz Auditorium.

The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. and tickets will be $28, $43 and $48 for adults, $23, $27 and $42 for students and $17, $22 and $42 for children.

Based on the hit film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, “The Wedding Singer” is crammed with 1980s pop culture and songs that have familiar sounds to Bon Jovi and Heart.

Wannabe rock star Robbie Hart makes his living as New Jersey’s favorite wedding singer until he is left at the altar. Robbie takes out his bitterness on stage at everyone’s weddings. A charming waitress named Julia captures his affections, but she’s engaged to a successful Wall Street broker, and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of his lifetime, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever.

The 1998 film “The Wedding Singer” grossed more than $120 million nationwide. The Broadway musical opened in April 2006, with music by Matthew Sklar, and book by Chad Beguelin and Tim Herlihy, former head writer for “Saturday Night Live” and author of the original screenplay.

In this show, produced by Prather Entertainment Group, the lead roles of Robbie Hart and Julia are played by husband and wife J. Michael Zygo and Jillian Zygo.

For tickets, you can charge by phone at (800) 745-3000, visit www.cfa.und.edu, or stop by the Chester Fritz box office.
